The SSA-8000 practice application goes from question #9 to #15 and question #14 is asking about veteran status and will not let me mark #14 on the form. Did I miss some info or other checkbox?

Answer

Questions #10-14 on the SSA-8000 apply only to non-U.S. citizens. Some non-U.S. citizens may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if they meet certain conditions, including individuals who are on active duty or Veterans who received an honorable discharge. Spouses, widow(er)s, or dependent children of these U.S. military personnel may also be eligible under certain conditions.

Since both of our practice case applicants are U.S. citizens, we have not made these questions fillable on the practice case SSA-8000. When helping individuals who are non-U.S. citizens with SSI applications, we recommend speaking with your local SSA office for additional guidance on the applicant’s claim.
