SOAR TA Center releases two NEW issue briefs

The SOAR TA Center recently released two issue briefs:

Connecting Veterans to Social Security Disability Benefits: A Key Component in Ending Veteran Homelessness discusses the importance of connecting Veterans with SSA disability benefits how the SOAR model can help.

Social Security Disability Recovery Stories of People Experiencing or At Risk for Homelessness is a collection of stories written by SOAR case managers or their supervisors, and by individuals assisted by SOAR case managers to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

SOAR Article in Psychiatric News

An article about SOAR appears in Psychiatric News, the newspaper of the American Psychiatric Association.  The article, "Defendants With Mental Illness Diverted to Social Security System," features the Miami, FL SOAR program and it's integration with the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Mental Health Project (CMHP) in Miami-Dade County.  It also includes a quote from our very own Dazara Ware, Senior Project Associate for the SAMHSA SOAR TA Center! Click here to read the article.

Social Security Online Application Process Revision
February 7, 2014
The online application process for SSA disability benefits has changed.  Beginning January 25, 2014, there is no longer an online “Adult Disability Report” but rather an SSA web page titled: “Apply Online for Disability Benefits.” The “Adult Disability Report” and “Filing for Disability Benefits” will no longer be separate websites. The goal of the changes to SSA’s website is to create a seamless pathway for online customers to file for disability benefits via a single access point. See
